June 20 marks the official first day of summer—and with it comes long evenings, backyard BBQs, spontaneous sidewalk chats, and the perfect season for neighbourhood celebrations.
This year also marks a special milestone in Lethbridge: it’s been 10 years since Neighbour Day was first announced in our city. Born from a simple idea—that strong neighbourhoods begin with simple connections—Neighbour Day has become a symbol of community pride and togetherness. Whether you’re new to the area or have lived here for decades, it’s a reminder that community starts at your doorstep.
Here at the League of YQL Neighbourhoods, we believe the spirit of Neighbour Day shouldn’t be limited to one weekend in June. In fact, we like to say: Every Day is Neighbour Day! That means finding simple, meaningful ways to connect with the people around you—whether that’s hosting a block party, attending a local community event, or just inviting a neighbour over for lemonade on the porch.
And just in time for summer, we’re excited to announce that our Neighbourhood Celebration & Block Party Planning Guide is now available! This comprehensive, easy-to-follow guide is designed to help residents and neighbourhood groups plan gatherings of all sizes—from casual park picnics to full-scale street parties.
You can read more about the guide in our recent blog post here or download the full version from our Resources page.
As the summer sun lights up our neighbourhoods, we encourage you to take the first step toward building stronger community connections. Say hi. Lend a hand. Plan something fun. Or just show up.
Because when it comes to creating a vibrant, welcoming city—Every Day is Neighbour Day!
