One of the most common concerns we hear from neighbourhood leaders and organizers is that their Facebook groups are overrun with negative comments (people complaining about crime, neighbour behaviour they don’t like, and so on). They end up becoming another roast group, and we know there are already plenty of those.
Negative posts emerge when neighbourhood groups are silent.
So the key to discouraging negative posts in your neighbourhood Facebook group is to regularly share positive posts in your group.
These positive posts can be neighbourhood news (like a new business opening), city-wide news (like curbside recycling rolling out), toasts to other neighbours for something positive they did, articles about increasing neighbourliness in general, and so on.
We hope that as CLAN starts to come alive again, we will see more of that content on our own social media. As we share it on our social media, feel free to reshare it on yours.
